Any way to update firmware in a Motorola SB 6141 cable internet modem?
It needs to be updated, I'm pretty sure. I've had some serious downstream drops lately while just casually using the internet via both LAN and wi-fi in my home. I had Enology (WoW) come out to look at my connections inside my apartment and outside and they saw that everything was fine. The only discrepancy was that the modem seems to have some issues with dropping down/maybe throttling the connection in gets.
The weird thing, too, was that the tech that came out said that my home was the 3rd call he had been on that day in my area for the same issues with the same exact modem. He told me that they were also working on some lines/infrastructure in my area for the company and also back at the server, and said that I should keep an eye on it over the weekend.
Well, I decided to dig a bit deeper and found that a good amount of people online have had the same issues that I have had with this modem, and that almost 90% of the time a firmware update fixed the issues. So, I called WoW and asked them to please push a firmware update to my modem, but they could not since it is one that I own and not one that I rent from them.
So, is there any way for me to update the modem on its own? Or does anyone have the latest firmware update for this bad boy that they can push to me?
TL;DR: I'm pretty sure my modem needs to have its firmware updated but ISP won't do it, so how can I do this?
